An Enviromental Downside To Buying Online

I buy a lot of cosmetics and other products online, which, given our shopping options, is probably the same for most women in New Zealand. This morning I received two orders from two well-known online retailers, both of which steered towards the somewhat ridiculous in their extreme packaging efforts.

So here’s a little name and shame.

Once It

Box arrived marked FRAGILE complete with red sticker. Upon opening, no less than three large sheets of thick brown paper were unwrapped to reveal one small and very plastic linen spray.

Strawberry Net

I got some KMS California 250ml Shampoo. Said purchase arrived in a box that was at least 6 times bigger in volume, complete with polystyrene packaging peanuts, polystyrene lid, and the item wrapped in bubble wrap. Precious.

10/10 for effort, 1/10 for environment. Surely we can do better than this.
